SUBURBAN ESSEX CHAMBER CELEBRATES 100 YEARS
The Suburban Essex Chamber of Commerce will mark its 100th anniversary at a gala on March 23, 2017. The celebration will be held at Naninaās in The Park in Belleville.
The Chamber was incorporated in 1917 as the Bloomfield Board of Trade. In 1923, the name was changed to become the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce. The group joined forces with the Belleville Chamber of Commerce to become the Suburban Essex Chamber of Commerce in 2003. A New Jersey non-profit corporation, the Chamber is a volunteer association of businesses and professional people working together to enhance the growth and prosperity of the business community.
āFor 100 years the vitality of our business community has been our focus, and we invite everyone to come celebrate with us,ā says Chamber President Josephine OāBrien, the Development Manager at XCEL Federal Credit Union in Bloomfield. āOur organization encompasses a broad spectrum of prestigious businesses and professional practices. We have 200 active members, and they also include community organizations, civic members and patrons.ā
Three Community Spotlight Honorees will be recognized at the 100th anniversary event. Mary Ellen Clyne, Ph.D., President and CEO of Clara Maass Medical Center, will receive the Excellence Award. Michael L. Sceurman, Director of Bloomfield Parks & Recreation, will be honored with the Recognition and Community Service Award. The Community Service Award will go to Jill Simmons, President of The Womenās Club of Glen Ridge.
